Tracked delivery anywhere in Australia. Free on orders of $90 or more; below that the only method offered is Express Delivery at $27.50, which is also available above the threshold as a paid upgrade. Allow 5 to 7 days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time. We ship within Australia only, and every price includes GST.

You have 15 days from purchase to change your mind on an unused item in its original packaging, with proof of purchase. That is our own policy rather than a statutory right, because Australian law gives no cooling-off period for an online purchase. A change of mind return carries a $29 handling charge, you cover the return postage, and the original delivery charge is not refunded. Refunds are processed 24 to 48 hours after we receive the item.

If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we put it right at no cost to you under the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law, return postage included. Those guarantees cannot be excluded and nothing on this page limits them; where the failure is major the choice between a refund, a replacement and a repair is yours.

Silk Both Sides22 momme on both faces, not one

Gold, in 22 momme mulberry silk.

One pillowcase, 51 cm by 76 cm, Grade 6A long fibre mulberry silk with a hidden zip. The same silk as every case we sell.

Gold is the warmest colour in the range and the one with the most sheen. It is the one people buy as a gift, and the one that photographs best.

The silk is the same on every colour we sell: 100 per cent mulberry, Grade 6A long fibre, woven to 22 momme on both faces. The colour is the only thing that changes.

It closes with a hidden zip rather than an envelope flap, so the pillow stays where you put it and there is nothing to tuck in at night.

Fits a standard Australian pillow at 51 cm by 76 cm. A king pillow will not fit, and we would rather say that here than on the returns page.

Gold Silk Pillowcase

What a silk pillowcase does is reduce friction. Cotton grips hair and skin and drags a little every time you turn over, and a silk surface lets both slide instead. That is a property of the weave rather than a treatment, and it is the honest version of everything else said about silk pillowcases.

Gold Silk Pillowcase

The number that matters is momme, which is how silk is weighed rather than counted. Silk thread is too fine for a useful thread count, so a standard piece is weighed instead. At 22 momme this is a dense, heavy silk. Below about 19 a pillowcase wears through quickly, and much above 22 you are into furnishing weight and lose the drape.

Grade 6A describes the raw silk: the longest and most uniform fibres available. It is a fibre grade, not a performance rating, and it is worth knowing what it does and does not tell you.

It closes with a hidden zip rather than an envelope flap, so the pillow stays where you put it and there is nothing to tuck in at eleven at night.

This page is one of eleven colours and the case itself is identical across all of them. If you would rather see the whole range on one page with a picker, the Silk Pillowcase page carries it at the same price.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. You have 15 days from purchase on any unused item in its original packaging. That is our own policy rather than a statutory right, because Australian law gives no cooling-off period for an online purchase, and we would rather say so than imply a right you do not have. A change of mind return carries a $29 handling charge and you cover the return postage.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law give you a repair, a replacement or your money back, and where the failure is major the choice is yours rather than ours. We pay the return postage and nothing on this page limits any of it. Read the detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the gold pillowcase made of?

100 per cent mulberry silk, 51 cm by 76 cm. The gold case is the same fabric and the same price as every other colour we make.

What size is the pillowcase?

51 cm by 76 cm, which is the standard Australian pillow size. A king pillow does not fit, and we would rather say that here than on the returns page.

How does it close?

A hidden zip rather than an envelope flap, so the pillow stays put and there is nothing to tuck in at night.

Is the price for one pillowcase?

Yes. One case per order line. Most people buy two if they sleep on two pillows.

What is momme?

A weight, not a thread count. Silk thread is too fine to count usefully, so a standard piece is weighed instead. Our pillowcases are 22 momme, which is a dense weight: below about 19 a case wears through sooner, and much above 22 starts behaving like furnishing silk.

What is Grade 6A?

The raw-silk grade, which describes fibre length and uniformity. 6A is the longest and most even. It is a fibre grade, not a performance rating.

Is this silk or satin?

Satin is a weave and silk is a fibre, so a fabric can be one, the other, or both. This one is 100 per cent mulberry silk. The other pillowcase range on this site is the opposite, and each page states its own fabric.

Is it silk on both sides?

Yes, 22 momme on both faces. Some cases are silk on one side only and a cheaper fabric on the other.

How often should I wash it?

About once a week, the same as any pillowcase. Silk is not a reason to wash less often.

Can I add a name to it?

Yes. The monogramming line adds an embroidered name to a pillowcase you buy here, and it adds 2 to 3 days to the delivery time.

Why are there separate pages for each colour?

Because people search for them that way. The case is identical across all eleven, and the colour page and the colour picker on the main page sell the same item at the same price.

Which colour should I choose?

Whichever suits the bed. Every colour is the same fabric at the same price, so there is no quality difference to weigh up.

Do you sell matching sheets?

There is a mulberry silk flat sheet in black and white, in queen and king. It is 19 momme rather than 22, which is the usual weight for a sheet.

Is the gold a strong colour or a soft one?

Gold is the warmest colour in the range and the one with the most sheen. It is the one people buy as a gift, and the one that photographs best.

How much is delivery?

Free across Australia on orders of $90 or more. Below that it is $27.50. Allow 5 to 7 days after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.

Do your prices include GST?

Yes. Every price on this site includes GST, so the figure on the product page is the figure you pay.

How do I wash it?

Cold water, 30 degrees or below, hand wash or a gentle machine cycle in a mesh bag. Use a detergent with no enzymes and no bleach. Air dry out of direct sun and keep it out of the dryer. Iron on the lowest setting if you iron it at all.

Can I put it in the dryer?

No.

Can I iron it?

On the lowest setting, and only if you want to. Silk creases less than cotton and most of it drops out overnight.

What detergent should I use?

A liquid with no enzymes and no bleach. Enzyme detergents are designed to break down protein, and silk is a protein fibre.

Will it pill?

Long-fibre mulberry silk resists pilling better than short-staple fabrics, and a gentle wash keeps it that way.

Will the colour fade?

Dry it out of direct sun and it holds its colour. Sunlight is what fades silk, not washing.

Does it shrink?

Not in cold water on a gentle cycle. Heat is what shrinks silk, so the dryer is the thing to avoid.

Do you deliver outside Australia?

This store delivers within Australia. Flair Silk has stores in other countries and the footer links to them.

What payment methods do you accept?

Card payment through Stripe, and PayPal. Those are the two methods at checkout.

How do I track my order?

A tracking number is emailed as soon as the parcel ships. There is a Track Your Parcel page in the Company menu.

Can I return it?

Within 15 days, unused and in its original packaging. The refunds and returns page sets out the detail, and the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of it.

Does this do anything for my skin or hair?

We describe the fabric, not an outcome. Silk is smoother than cotton, so hair and skin slide across it rather than dragging. We make no medical, dermatological or anti-ageing claim, and where you see one made about silk elsewhere it is usually not evidenced.

Do I need an account to order?

No. You can check out as a guest.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Email us as soon as you can. Once a parcel has been picked and labelled it is usually on its way, so the sooner you write the more we can do.

How to buy a silk pillowcase without being sold a story

5 min read Flair Silk Company

Start with the pillow, not the pillowcase

This case is 51 cm by 76 cm, the standard Australian pillow size, which is what almost every pillow sold here is. If yours is a king, or a contoured memory foam shape, measure it before you order. A silk case stretched over a pillow it was not cut for wears at the seam first, and that is the one failure that is not the fabric's fault.

The number to look at is momme

Momme is a weight, not a count. Silk thread is too fine to count usefully, so a standard piece is weighed instead. This case is 22 momme, which is the weight we settled on: 19 is fine but wears through sooner, and much heavier than 22 starts behaving like furnishing silk and loses the drape.

Check that it is silk on both faces

Ours is 22 momme on both sides. A case that is silk on one face and a cheaper fabric on the other is a real product sold at a real discount, and there is nothing wrong with buying one, but you should know which you are looking at.

Grade 6A tells you about the fibre, not the result

It is the raw-silk grade: longest fibres, most uniform. It is worth having and it is not a performance rating. Anyone quoting it as proof of an outcome is quoting the wrong thing.

Know what the fabric actually does

It reduces friction. Cotton grips and drags a little every time you turn over, and silk lets hair and skin slide instead. That is the whole mechanism. We do not claim it changes how skin ages, and we do not claim it repairs hair, because neither of those is something we can stand behind.

Wash it the boring way

Cold water at 30 degrees or below, hand wash or a gentle machine cycle in a mesh bag, a detergent with no enzymes and no bleach. Air dry out of direct sun and keep it out of the dryer. Sunlight is what fades the colour and heat is what shortens the life.
