Tracked delivery anywhere in Australia. Free on orders of $90 or more; below that the only method offered is Express Delivery at $27.50, which is also available above the threshold as a paid upgrade. Allow 5 to 7 days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time. We ship within Australia only, and every price includes GST.

You have 15 days from purchase to change your mind on an unused item in its original packaging, with proof of purchase. That is our own policy rather than a statutory right, because Australian law gives no cooling-off period for an online purchase. A change of mind return carries a $29 handling charge, you cover the return postage, and the original delivery charge is not refunded. Refunds are processed 24 to 48 hours after we receive the item.

If it arrives faulty, damaged or not as described, we put it right at no cost to you under the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law, return postage included. Those guarantees cannot be excluded and nothing on this page limits them; where the failure is major the choice between a refund, a replacement and a repair is yours.

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, no bleach. Tumble dry low or hang it up. Iron on a low setting if you need to. Polyester satin takes ordinary laundry better than silk does.

A satin weave in polyester, and the page says so.

100 per cent polyester satin, 51 cm by 76 cm, nine colours at one price. About half the cost of the mulberry range, and a great deal easier to wash.

One pillowcase in 100 per cent polyester satin, cut to 51 cm by 76 cm. Satin is the weave and polyester is the fibre, and this page says both.

Black is the colour people pick when the pillowcase should disappear into the bed. Make-up and hair product do not show on it between washes the way they do on white, so it looks presentable for longer even though it needs washing just as often.

It is about half the price of the mulberry silk range on this site and it takes an ordinary cold machine wash, which is the practical reason most people buy it.

It fits a standard Australian pillow. A king pillow will not fit.

Satin Pillowcase

Satin is a weave and silk is a fibre, so a fabric can be one, the other, or both. This range is a satin weave in 100 per cent polyester. It glides in much the same way as silk and costs about half as much, and the page says so rather than leaving you to work it out.

Satin Pillowcase

The practical difference is laundry. Polyester takes a normal cold machine wash, tolerates a low dryer setting and does not care about enzyme detergent. Silk wants cold water, no enzymes and no heat. If the washing is the thing that would put you off, this is the range to buy.

Satin Pillowcase

The practical difference the other way is the fibre. Silk is a natural protein filament and polyester is not, and if that matters to you the mulberry range on this site is the one to look at.

Satin Pillowcase

It is cut to 51 cm by 76 cm, the standard Australian pillow size, in nine colours at one price.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. You have 15 days from purchase on any unused item in its original packaging. That is our own policy rather than a statutory right, because Australian law gives no cooling-off period for an online purchase, and we would rather say so than imply a right you do not have. A change of mind return carries a $29 handling charge and you cover the return postage.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law give you a repair, a replacement or your money back, and where the failure is major the choice is yours rather than ours. We pay the return postage and nothing on this page limits any of it. Read the detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the black pillowcase made of?

100 per cent polyester satin, 51 cm by 76 cm. The black case is the same fabric and the same price as every other colour we make.

What size is the pillowcase?

51 cm by 76 cm, which is the standard Australian pillow size. A king pillow does not fit, and we would rather say that here than on the returns page.

How does it close?

The satin range closes with an envelope back rather than a zip.

Is the price for one pillowcase?

Yes. One case per order line. Most people buy two if they sleep on two pillows.

What is momme?

Momme is how silk is weighed, and it does not apply here. This case is polyester satin, so it is described by its weave rather than by a silk weight.

What is Grade 6A?

Silk grades do not apply to a polyester satin. This is a satin weave in 100 per cent polyester and the page says so plainly.

Is this silk or satin?

Satin is a weave and silk is a fibre, so a fabric can be one, the other, or both. This one is 100 per cent polyester satin. The other pillowcase range on this site is the opposite, and each page states its own fabric.

Is it silk on both sides?

Yes, the satin weave runs on both faces.

How often should I wash it?

About once a week, the same as any pillowcase. Silk is not a reason to wash less often.

Can I add a name to it?

Yes. The monogramming line adds an embroidered name to a pillowcase you buy here, and it adds 2 to 3 days to the delivery time.

Why are there separate pages for each colour?

Because people search for them that way. The case is identical across all eleven, and the colour page and the colour picker on the main page sell the same item at the same price.

Which colour should I choose?

Whichever suits the bed. Every colour is the same fabric at the same price, so there is no quality difference to weigh up.

Do you sell matching sheets?

There is a mulberry silk flat sheet in black and white, in queen and king. It is 19 momme rather than 22, which is the usual weight for a sheet.

Is the black a strong colour or a soft one?

Black is the colour people pick when the pillowcase should disappear into the bed. Make-up and hair product do not show on it between washes the way they do on white, so it looks presentable for longer even though it needs washing just as often.

How much is delivery?

Free across Australia on orders of $90 or more. Below that it is $27.50. Allow 5 to 7 days after a 24 to 48 hour handling time.

Do your prices include GST?

Yes. Every price on this site includes GST, so the figure on the product page is the figure you pay.

How do I wash it?

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, no bleach. Tumble dry low or hang it up. Iron on a low setting if you need to. Polyester satin takes ordinary laundry better than silk does.

Can I put it in the dryer?

Yes, on a low setting, or hang it up and skip the dryer entirely.

Can I iron it?

Yes, on a low setting. Polyester does not like a hot iron.

What detergent should I use?

Any mild liquid detergent without bleach. Polyester is not fussy.

Will it pill?

Satin can pill at the edges over time, particularly if it goes through a hot wash. A cool gentle cycle is what keeps it smooth.

Will the colour fade?

Keep it out of direct sun to dry and it holds its colour well.

Does it shrink?

Not noticeably. Polyester is stable in the wash.

Do you deliver outside Australia?

This store delivers within Australia. Flair Silk has stores in other countries and the footer links to them.

What payment methods do you accept?

Card payment through Stripe, and PayPal. Those are the two methods at checkout.

How do I track my order?

A tracking number is emailed as soon as the parcel ships. There is a Track Your Parcel page in the Company menu.

Can I return it?

Within 15 days, unused and in its original packaging. The refunds and returns page sets out the detail, and the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law apply on top of it.

Does this do anything for my skin or hair?

We describe the fabric, not an outcome. Silk is smoother than cotton, so hair and skin slide across it rather than dragging. We make no medical, dermatological or anti-ageing claim, and where you see one made about silk elsewhere it is usually not evidenced.

Do I need an account to order?

No. You can check out as a guest.

Can I change or cancel my order?

Email us as soon as you can. Once a parcel has been picked and labelled it is usually on its way, so the sooner you write the more we can do.

How to choose between a silk pillowcase and a satin one

4 min read Flair Silk Company

Satin is a weave, silk is a fibre

That one sentence settles most of the confusion. A satin weave is a way of interlacing threads so that most of the surface is made of long floats, which is what produces the sheen and the glide. It can be woven in silk, in polyester or in a blend. This range is woven in 100 per cent polyester.

What you gain by buying the satin

Price, mostly, and laundry. It is about half the cost of the mulberry range and it takes an ordinary cold machine wash, a low dryer setting and whatever detergent is in the cupboard. The mulberry range wants cold water, an enzyme-free detergent and no heat at all.

What you give up

The fibre. Silk is a natural protein filament and polyester is not, and there is no version of this page where those two things are the same. If the material matters to you rather than the finish, the mulberry range is the one to look at.

The surface behaves similarly

Both are smoother than cotton, and a smoother surface means less drag on hair and skin as you move overnight. That is a property of the weave and it is all we will claim for either of them.

Size and fit

51 cm by 76 cm, which is the standard Australian pillow. A king pillow does not fit. Measure the pillow rather than the bed, because those are different numbers.

Washing it

Cold, gentle, mild detergent, no bleach. Low dryer or hang it up. Polyester tolerates heat better than silk but it does not enjoy it, and a hot wash is what starts the pilling.
